In Germany – Through the registry office
In the case of births in hospital, parents usually receive an informal document on which the name, birth weight, height and the exact time of birth are noted. Some birth certificates also state the time of birth.
If you do not have this at home, you can contact the registry office that issued the birth certificate
Nowadays, many registry offices can be contacted by telephone. You will need the birth certificate number for this
At some registry offices, however, you have to make an appointment on site. Make sure you bring your ID and birth certificate with you.
If you no longer live near your place of birth, you can send a representative there. To do this, you must give the representative a power of attorney stating why they are authorised to ask for the information. The authorised representative* must also have their ID and your ID with them as an original or certified copy.
Other registry offices offer online services to obtain this information
In most cases, you will have to pay a fee of €5-7 for the time of birth information.
In other Countries
1. Ask your parents! Often they might remember the time.
2. Have a look at your birth certificate
3. Request a birth certificate with birth time from the responsible authorities in your country of birth
4. Check out other possibilities like calling your birth hospital, getting in touch with your midwife or using online services of the registry offices
